WHY is SUMMER reading important?

Summer reading is critical for students to retain knowledge and skills learned in the previous school year. Students who don’t read are at risk of falling behind their classmates. Parents and teachers can avoid this by making sure kids take time to read.

HOW does my child participate in Mr. Brown’s Summer Reading Challenge?

  Select Scholastic “Read-A-Palooza” (digital.scholastic.com) summer reading challenge

  Use the laminated Scholastic user name and password card (that was sent home by your child’s teacher) to login

  Get a book, start the on-line Scholastic timer, and read for 20 minutes or more

  Record your minutes read, and watch your progress grow! Earn the badges and special prizes from Scholastic

  Mr. Brown will also be watching each child’s progress over the summer, and will be giving out special prizes to the top 3 students from each homeroom in the fall!

 Star. Inside star it says Top 3 readers from each grade get a prize from Mr. Brown!        Listen for Mr. Brown's weekly call to acknowledge random students who regularly participate
