MR. BROWN’S SUMMER READING CHALLENGE
WHY is SUMMER reading important?
Summer reading is critical for students to retain knowledge and skills learned in the previous school year. Students who don’t read are at risk of falling behind their classmates. Parents and teachers can avoid this by making sure kids take time to read.
HOW does my child participate in Mr. Brown’s Summer Reading Challenge?
Go to the CCSD website (www.carmelschools.org) and look under “News and Announcements for the Summer Reading Program”

Use the laminated Scholastic user name and password card (that was sent home by your child’s teacher) to login
Get a book, start the on-line Scholastic timer, and read for 20 minutes or more
Record your minutes read, and watch your progress grow! Earn the badges and special prizes from Scholastic
Mr. Brown will also be watching each child’s progress over the summer, and will be giving out special prizes to the top 3 students from each homeroom in the fall!
